I have to visit the app store to manually update.

The update notifications are only available for the PWA. For the App Store releases you have to check the app stores :)
There’s also the option to turn on auto app update in Settings > App Store > Automatic Downloads > App Updates ; and it will be updated automatically in the background.
I think TestFlight auto updates are quicker. That’s how I use it.
