  • I’m german, but anyway. You’re entitled to your opinion, even though it’s pretty much evident it’s nonsense in regards to the current situation in the US. I do hope to be completely wrong about this one in the long run, however right now anyone who isn’t a christian white heterosexual cis male has to resist or even outright fear for their life.

So yeah, I think you can be pretty happy people will just be angry at you online with your opinion given many are forced into fighting and resistance against the system you’re more or less representing in the context of this discussion. Better toughen up.

  • If people find that to be a problem, then they need to get the law changed

My brother in Christ, the system meant to hold up and enable the people to shape those laws does. not. work. That’s the whole god damn point. You might also want to look at how harmful systems usually get into power (peaceful), and how people are usually able to get rid of them if the perpetrators of said harmful system aren’t willing to give away power. Historically this was not achieved through talking nicely or resorting to the very rules of said harmful system. Given a working democratic system that ensures people’s well-being, mass meat production can be changed peacefully through civil discussions and political participation. However this whole thing with Luigi is about the existence of said well-being and system itself. People are suffering and democracy failed them. What’s left is everyone’s own ethical compass and unspoken societal moral rules. That’s what you’re arguing with, and why Luigi is seen by many as Folk hero. And why people will get increasingly pissed about you and call you a bootlicker, as you argue as if there’s still a democracy even though for many there’s only a boot stomping on all of us.

Arguing with democratic processes if there’s no democracy to speak of anymore (or a majority of people stopped believing in it - even worse!) won’t get you anywhere.

  • If you’re being attacked with the possibility of dying then defending yourself with equal force isn’t murder, it’s self-defense. If the attack is systemic and the system is objectively failing and beyond repair through its own institutions, then what would be a murder in different context becomes an action of self-defense.

The person killed was, without a doubt, a perpetrator of the system that caused phenomenal amounts of suffering and death. A system that couldn’t get fixed in decades. So what you call “excusing murder” others will call celebrating a hero.

For the same reason this community celebrates any news about big corpos and rich people getting screwed over. Because it’s a piece of fairness in a broken system. There is no hypocrisy if you allow to look through others people’s perspective; given this is a hard thing to do if you just got tons of very critical, if not offensively-critical replies, I see that.

  • Stop moving the goalpost around, you literally cried about people “brigading”, “mob mentality” and threw insults about supposed insecurity around. People are rightfully calling that out.

The best thing you can now do is to, indeed, just shut up and go for a nice walk through the park or similar. Calm down, sleep a night over this, then come back and either delete your comments or apologize for lashing out (while clearly standing with your valid opinion) if you feel like it. But stop digging your grave even deeper.

I get that this topic is fucking rough. People are dying. People get killed. And your original opinion condemning violence and asking if such things should get posted here is a completely valid opinion. BUT what really screws you over now is your inability to not lash out when confronted with huge disagreement. Conflating this with your valid point won’t get you anywhere, it will only make you look like a fool even more, causing even more strongly worded disagreement (or trolling).

  • Preferably you should learn to deal with criticism, even if almost anyone is disagreeing with you. Crying on social media about a majority disagreeing only makes you look like a fool and basically animates a crowd of trolls to make fun of you. Also be aware that reactions to you so far were comparably civil, on more toxic platforms you’d have already been stomped into the ground.

If your sense of self-worth isn’t strong enough to deal with massive civil / anonymous disagreement by other people without resorting to throwing shit around you should focus on improving it first before writing comments about controversial topics.

  • This. There also are soooo many solutions to this “problem”. I saw both reusable metal straws as well as single-use ones out of very, very hard pasta (fittingly in an italian restaurant). Got the latter with a coke (so lots of acid), it didn’t change the taste of the coke in any way even after about 50 minutes of it standing around.

All those boomer fools crying over their plastic straws are either utterly dense or, more likely, full of propaganda bull.

  • Not to mention it lacks any (ethical) monetization options. And the app is absolutely rudimentary, lacking even basic functionality.

Framasoft made it clear they don’t want to make it a Youtube alternative though, however it could be through plugins. So there’d have to be a company or cooperative using it as a base to build upon, which is actually realistic. Especially European ones; not because Asia wouldn’t be interested in being more independent on the US as well, but because Framasoft is from France and Europe actively works towards this goal anyway with lots of money behind it.

  • I don’t get you US americans with your political stuff, your terminology seems to be all over the place. Today democrats are libertarian, next day it’s the republicans. This is literally authoritarianism at play by definition, their liberties are taken away. And where does the evil left come from, that state seems to be run by Republicans, i.e. extreme rightwing.

I mean, ever since your election the whole world knows your politics is broken beyond repair, but this is still bloody confusing to read.

  • This. I wholeheartedly concur that corporate “social” media is fucking shit up like hell, however as long as people are socially stuck there they will be around, as as long as that is the case people who need to make a living will have to roll out stuff and communicate with people there.

In fact this is specifically the kind of tool a friend and me looked for but couldn’t find as FOSS until now, although we’d definitely need support for the Mastodon API / Lemmy.

One may argue which platforms to choose (depending on what you want to show people or who you want to reach). But completely abandoning garbage platforms ain’t possible right now, especially for small businesses who need to be seen somewhere.

  • This is part of Googles strategy. Ever since the Chromium engine took off enough and everyone else fell behind they began introducing more and more changes that merely benefits them, with less public debate or proper communication (or even adherence to common standards). Last thing I remember, aside of manifest v3, was them killing off JPEG XL as it was a competitor to webp and webm (which they control). JPEG XL was actively worked on and would’ve probably turned out better before they killed it without any previous notice.

Given Googles dominant market position, their influence and everyone wanting to cut corners wherever possible sometimes Firefox support is just ignored.

    tl;dr It’s not Firefox’ fault. It’s Google’s sabotage.
