#OldAndWeird

For a better lemmy experience, remember to block lemmy.ml , lemmygrad, and hexbear.net

Moved on to the better fediverse platform, mbin, avoid lemmy instances: https://github.com/jointhefediverse-net/jointhefediverse.net/blob/main/README.md (scroll to bottom)

  • I don’t think you realize just how fast lead acid batteries deteriorate when using their smaller charge capacities. In cars and many electronics they are used because they can be shamelessly charged to 100%, and they are supposed to maintain 100% or close to it. They require constant monitoring to be stored properly in a way that lasts. Using them up below 50% will decrease their lifespan significantly. Lithium batteries are quite different, they shouldn’t be charged to 100% but in turn they can use a greater amount of their charge while holding more of it without significant deterioration. They have significantly longer lifespans when used properly. Before we had gasoline cars we had electric cars that used lead acid batteries, there’s a reason they stopped being used.

What China wants to do is eliminate the older lithium ebikes because they were built with barely any safety regulation. To do this, they need to offer a cheaper option to their citizens, and the only way they can essentially do this without the original problem persisting is using lead acid batteries, because even a cheap lead acid battery with a cheap charger isn’t going to fail spectacularly like the lithium ones. LiFePO4 are far safer than lithium while still having higher energy densities, but you won’t see those get promoted because they would be costlier.

  • Their claims regarding privacy are really not surprising, it’s very on-brand for the developer’s ideology to eliminate transparency for users in the platform while keeping everything stored and federated in the back end for the ruling elite, which if and when they decide to, become the arbiters of who can and won’t see it. They haven’t even bothered to provide any form of recourse to contest it, you basically have to go looking for people yourself. At least until mod member lists are made private too.

I fully agree with their decision, Lemmy is transient at best. They could still include Mbin, but why include a loaded deck? Actually, decided to check, yep, they did, kudos to them, they really did think it through.

Downvote all you want, still ain’t gonna change that jointhefediverse.net decision (based as fuck) 😂

  • Just a heads up, I submitted this in World News and it got taken down because of “rule 3” even though it’s as you say. It also fairly early on got brigaded by “counterpropaganda” from hexbear, and the alts coming out of the woodworks, ignoring any other community content, just to defend King Jong-un and North Korea’s character was ridiculous. I guess lemmy.ml and lemmy.world have more in common than I thought. I got in contact with one of the mods and they confirmed it was wrongly removed and restored it, so it was definitely not a unanimous decision - I take my comment back.

Budae-jjigae is literally made from hot dog sausages, and the ban is tied to maintaining the cultural divide between North and South Korea. This news shouldn’t be making as much noise as it is, if it wasn’t because of weighted agendas seriously getting concerned. I’m sure you are probably getting a lot of spam to coerce you.

  • I read a dictator making shitty lost in a country with a long list of shitty laws in my news feed, I don’t have a problem believing it. He’s done worse, it’s a Google search away. It also isn’t that different from things China or Russia have done to try to prevent cultures intermingling at home. Lemmy shows its hidden face when for a rather unremarkable but somewhat entertaining piece of news it immediately gets posted to a Marxist Leninist community to brigade.

The bias on Lemmy is to defend China and Russia, even this thread was almost immediately reported to a brigading Marxist Leninist community almost the moment it was created on hexbear, never mind the Lemmy bias on the matter. It just so happens that some things require more mental gymnastics than reality can tolerate, specially when the propaganda usually used to criticize can also be applied to the side they don’t want criticized. There would be no issue if this was a Biden or Trump article, and they are far from dictators. There is no problem with vilifying leaders - unless it involved those in the Marxist Leninist pantheon, apparently.
